How to Care for swrve Apparel
Posted on
Every garment we make is built to last a long time and with proper care, your swrve gear can stay looking new and last even longer.
Here are some easy-to-follow guidelines for extending the life of your swrve pieces.
Washing and drying: Heat and tumbling are the arch nemeses of virtually every piece of apparel. When it comes to washing and drying, we recommend a cold wash and rinse and skipping the dryer in favor of air drying with your garments laid flat. If you need to use a dryer, go for the lowest heat setting and the least vicious tumble.
Detergent: The gentlest laundry detergent works best. We recommend steering clear of detergents with unnecessary components such as added scent or fabric softeners.
Stain treatment: Did you get some grease or BBQ sauce on your favorite shorts? We suggest doing a spot treatment prior to washing by using an enzymatic cleaner such as Shout or Zout. They’re safe for use on any of our fabrics and a bottle should last you a very long time. As with any stain-fighting products, we recommend reading their specific guidelines and instructions prior to use.
Pieces with DWR Treatment: Our lightweight, mid-weight, and softshell fabrics along with our Durable Cotton range are infused with a DWR (Durable Water Repellent) treatment that does lose its water fighting capabilities over time. To help rejuvenate its powers, we recommend using Nikwax brand products such as Hardshell Duo Pack, Softshell Proof, or TX.Direct Spray-On.Handwashing: For smaller pieces such as our cycling caps and masks, we strongly recommend washing by hand with cold water and air drying. A few drops of your favorite gentle detergent will go a long way. Just be sure to do a thorough rinse.
Pro-Tip: To help your jeans hold their color longer (especially black jeans), we recommend washing them inside out. This same tip applies to any garment with cotton, as this material is the most susceptible to losing color in the wash, and to any printed t-shirts to help keep the artwork looking fresh.
How often should you wash your jeans? This is a loaded question among denim-heads and our suggestion is, as for any garment, to wash your jeans as little as reasonable. Over-washing is bad but being known as the person at the office who never washes their jeans is worse; if you want to freshen up your jeans between washes, putting them out in the sun will air them out and help kill accumulated bacteria.
